    Hello everyone,

does anybody know a possibility (need not be freeware or OpenSource!) to create RAR-archives besides Eugene's original library/license?
Iirc there has been a shareware-dll that Dirk Paehl linked from his homepage a while ago, but it vanished
Why I ask? Because www.jzip.com researchs for such a possibility. My only sucess in the last days was Karchiver (QT-program for linux) but I don't really know if it relies on commandline-version or RAR.

    Best regards!

AFAIK, KArchiver is just a wrapper across other compression tools - since these tools must be installed.

Anyone can write own RAR archiver (RAR archive format is well described, compressor can be written based on the open-source decoder)

However, such thing iis equal to RAR-license violation.

    Hello everyone,

licenses are very complicated. Afaik SpeedProject created a dll that is able to make RAR-files _without_ beiing accused by Mr. E.R. (the discussion about that took place in PowerArchiver's forum some years ago, maybe 2002 or earlier...). So, as you say, it must be possible for at least somebody to write such an archiver / dll.
But that doesn't answer my question...
Does anyone have knowledge about such a dll?

    Best regards!

I dont think so. He relied on the presence of WinRAR (rar.exe, unrar.exe) on a system.

If I remember correct it only made rar2.0 archives, now long outdated, not rar2.9 archives. That will have helped Eugene to end discussion at some point.
