Rar stile is good!
...tested compatibility with WinZip 11.1 - all okay!
Improved ZIP archive handling. (On some ZIP files current PIM can throw an error message - FIXED)
Improved QUAD file handling.

TODO list:
The main compression will be some sort of PPMd clone.
In addition we will have the Store mode - which can be enabled manually and automatically for tiny files. (eventually for incompressile files)
With max mode PIM v2 will have CM compression for max compression.
PIM will use non solid archives, so eventually you can add/delete files from existing archive.
What's already done:
+ An improved ZIP-file support, including bugfixes
+ Added PIM2 engine, but currently only Store method supported.
Continue working...

Seem nice! Keep up the good work!
If PIM won't outperform Vista in hdd usage - it's ok
And while PIM is exeperimental archiver there is no problems with modification times. If you want to make PIM widespread - all standard features must be present, i.e. file must have all the same attributes as it had before archiving.
It's not really experimental, since I keep full backwards compatibility.
Thus I kept compatibility with PIM v1 archives.
I call it small archiver by myself. PIM 2 already has many handy features:
+ Extended ZIP-file support (BZip2, PPMd decompression). So, it compatible with WinZip 10/11.
+ Built-in PPMd compression - the PIM v2 already has the same compression as WinZip 11 with PPMd mode. But PIM is absolutely FREE.
+ Well designed interface. Althrough PIM has very simple GUI, it is very well designed unlike many freeware utilities.
All in all PIM v2 is already like a bomb!
But the main thing is PIM2 compression which is still under development...
PPMd already shows good compression, the goal of PIM2 is get to notable higher compression. Yes it must be slow. However, I will keep the ~100...200 KB/sec or faster.

Well, WinZip 11 WavPack could be a problemOriginally Posted by encode

Do you really think PIM in near future can be as popular as WinZip or WinRar? Most PC users can't master even those popular programs. If you want beat other programs yours must be nobrainerJust one big button - "Press me!"
Then you ask, what user want to do - compress or decompress, then ask him to select files and folders and so on
PIM would be popular between housewifes

It might be that PIM v2 will have a much bigger audience than PIM v1!Originally Posted by nimdamsk
In add dialog there is nothing about WavPack. I hope that if you specify the PPMd the WInZip 11 will use PPMd only. I will test for it...Originally Posted by Black_Fox

I guess I release PIM 2.00 alpha with Store/PPMd compression first, so you can check for bugs, evaluate, etc.
After that I release the pim2 console compressor - for the new PIM2 engine testing.
After, I add it to the PIM...![]()

Is Wavpack 4.41 archive compatible with 4.32 (decompression only)? There have been major speedups in current version...
I briefly looked at WavPack sources and docs. I heard the WavPack v4.0 compression term. So, I think, both versions must be compatible.Originally Posted by Black_Fox

Hello everyone,
Guess why Im a fan of Pim(ple)...?Originally Posted by encode
Since we are talking about "free"... what about translation? Will you allow to do that and spread these versions? What license will you choose?
Cant wait for new version!
Best regards!
Currently, Im not planning translations - since now Im working on core/barebones of the PIM v2 (compression, archive handling, etc.). In addition, there is many many features already icluded in TODO list.Originally Posted by Vacon
Translate PIM using hex editor/resource hacker. Hm, I think its okay. However, I will not upload and share these versions via original PIMs homepage. Eventually, I can add something like language packs to the PIM. So everyone can create own language pack for his own native language. Anyway, currently I think that at this stage of develoment there is no need in translations - English is okay - everyone can understand...
License is some sort of generic Freeware license. Like I said:
+ Free software with no warranty
+ You can use and distribute it in UNMODIFIED form without any restrictions
I even not accept donations. And its right thing!

Hello everyone,
As you can see, Im asking for your permission. Its not my aim to put labour on your shoulders! Usually I use ResourceHacker or XN ResourceEditor _if_permission_is_given_!Originally Posted by Vacon
Its your choice and thus it is absolutly right thing!!!Originally Posted by encode
Your work, your license -> nothing to bother!
I cannot support OpenSource-software and ignore a given license by will. The world lacks of respect and if I want it, I have to give it!
Thanks for answering
Best regards!
