I mean I like "those" days more than nowadays (does anyone remember 0x386?)

I've add support for BIG folder, but not BIG files still...
And replaced engine, of course. Some minor additions left

Are you referring to the 80386 microprocessor?

I clearly remember the earlier 8088/86 and 80286 CPUs.

My favourite CPU is the Motorola 6809E.

When I was a kid, I had no CPU. I had a NES game console (in Russian market NES also known as Dendy). One huge game console shop was located close to my home. Now this shop sales only toys and it is located in small building nearly at old one – since at old place a bank is now located. That means, the time of old consoles is gone! Anyway, sometimes I play in my favorite games via NES emulator.

Yes, I suppose some WINAPI functionality requares Win2k...
I have the Win98 machine, but it's more likely I will create the Virtual Machine on my laptop so I can test it.

BTW, Dark GUI v0.2 has many improments and in testing stage now

BTW2 2BlackFox: Where can I get the PSD file from your Testset (The results of OpenDark and Dark are greatly vary

I've cut off the floating point module so the gui exe is even smaller
Did anyone try to compress it with UPX?

    UPX 2.91 turns dark-gui-0.1 from 79,360 to 43,008 bytes and 0.2 from 76,800 to 40,448 bytes.

    40kb nice number
GUI v0.2 use exactly 0.51 engine. But archive format is a little differs. Concole version doesn't store 'packed size'

When preprocessed by usort 3.10, PSD file can be packed to 1,240,789 bytes via dark gui 0.2 (2,571,670 - dark 0.51, 1,515,319 - OpenDarkA)...

BTW, PAQ8JD compressed these preprocessed files with horrible loss compared to compressing originals, so did ocamyd. Is it because of these compressors use algorithm which can't use bwt preprocessed file to full advantage or do they have more powerful preprocessing?

BWT preprocessing destroys the contexts so needed for context modelling techniques...

I tried to compress two files from different folder with the same name into one archive and then decompressing into one folder. The first file got properly extracted, while the second was extracted to file ".null". All other tries just appended file selected to extraction to this .null. Is this correct?

I try putting it into durilca then.

20:30 : Well, neither durilca nor ppmonstr made better results out of precompressed files... but at least I added ppmonstr to my table

Strangely, OpenDark (simplified version of Dark) performs much better that original one on this PSD file. Anyway, Quad compresses this file down to 1,200,563 bytes...

Its correct. Darks GUI doesnt replace files by default. Instead all output is redirected to ".null".

According to me the system of codifies BWT even if powerful it is limited and to of of an improvement in the structure difficultly it can carry to great jam in how much changes the same structure of rows!
why not to invent a BWT2!

What do you have planned for Dark GUI versions 0.3/0.4?

By the way, DARK 0.51 was tested by me on "broken" input. Instead of error messages like:
    data corrupt
    data error
    broken file
    crc error
    etc.
DARK produces the garbage file and freezes...

ok, will be corrected in the next version.

    2LovePimple:
To tell the truth, I've made all I wanted to see in Dark GUI. May be some minor corrections in 0.21... Next major version GUI 0.3 will be released only when the significant compression improvement is reached.
