Please test UhaRc instead of WinUha and check if you really tested alz-1 and not alz-3. If it?s really alz-1 use alz-3 :-D

Commandline tips are:

lz-based
uharc -m3 -md32768

ppm-based
uharc -mx -md32768

For both you should test "-mm-" switch (disables media detection). This sometimes shows better results in both speed and size!

Point 2: Could you test archivers without tar the files into one archive?WinArc, UhaRc, WinRar would benefit much (more or less) from this.

I cannot believe!!! Could you give the final compressed size and compressing time? Also, what is the processing speed?

I have had problems to modify the program in order to insert the commands with -> "...." and it is probable that the program that manages the compression automatic rifle has gone in block! I try to retest! gave to me approximately 350-500 Kb/s in compression!

I noticed you wrote "default" in option column. Did you test it with "-mem 8"? It uses approximately 512 MB RAM. You should write "-m lwcx -mem 8" in your option column for clearing something.

2. options have to be wrong
3. You have to get the same compression size and ratio also with uharc because winuha is nothing else then a gui for this

The memory usage could be correct, I guess

Used memory for UHARC 0.6b :

- ALZ1 -ALZ3 modes : 3 + 9d + b [MB] (same for all ALZ modes !!)
- MX (PPM-mode) : 19 + d + b [MB]

(d=dictionary [MB] relates to parameter -mdxxxxx must be given in kB)
(b= filebuffers [MB] relates to parameter -bxxxxx must be given in kB)

You're right about WinUHA : should give the same results as UHARC; WinUHA just passes the parameters to UHARC and starts UHARC in the background.

I also wondered about -m3 with -md32768, I couldn't find it... maybe it was too slow ?

I just checked MOC : it gives a very good and also a very complete overview about available compressors with a reasonable speed.

posssible improvements for MOC :

- line 8 (ranked on compression size) : UHARC -m1 - md32768 should use about 3 + 32*9 + buffersize (default 1MB) = about 292 MB RAM for compression.

- CMM4 was tested with 43 ; could you test it like CMM4 76 ...??
(it should still fullfill the 1GB mem. requirement )

- A few classic/good compressor programs that I miss in the list :

- WinZip 11 (has also PPM, is fast and has good wave and other mm compression, switches automatic) , is probably also the most used compressor nowadays !!

- Squeez 5.6 : very good "general purpose" compressor, the one I use for "daily" archiving.

Would it be possible to include these in the future ?
