Check out an old MS-DOS archiver by Milen Georgiev (my compile). For year 1993 its compression is very good.

Which settings did you use on this test?

    Options>Preferences> "Max compression"

I also used the same settings for the ENWIK8 test.

    To Ilia:

Any chance you could compile SEM.PAS so SFX archives can be created?

Well, since this program is back from 1993, its source is not so easy to compile. In addition, the 'COMPILE.EXE' file included wont work. Manually, and with small source changes, I compile all files needed to 'AMG.EXE', note this program can run without 'SEM.OVL'. So anyways, today I compile SEM.PAS, and this SFX-module just wont work, also I try to compile with different options - the same result - either program quits or prints a lots of garbage and error message 'damaged archive'. So, I think, no reason to waste any time to make a stable version of this SFX module.

Here's my compile of AMG 2.2 if anyone wants it. Source code is also included in the archive.

I had exactly the same problem.

    Thanks Vader!

I just read the manual for the first time and noticed this...

"* SEA (Available to registered users only)
Creates SEA (Self Extracting Archive). This is a .EXE
file with the ability to extract the compressed data.
SEA does not support multiple volume archives with
password. SEA opens up the Archive Name dialog box,
where you can enter the archive file name, including the
drive and directory, and click or choose OK."

This program is so old that getting the registered version will probably be almost impossible. Seems like we will never have a functioning SFX module for this archiver!

The ENWIK8 results were incorrectly listed. GZIP beats Info-Zip on this file.

    KZIP 35,016,649

RAR 2.50 for DOS (best) 35,105,459

    AMG 2.2 (max) 36,414,084

    GZIP 1.3.5 (-9) 36,445,248

    Info-Zip 2.32 for DOS (-9) 36,445,333
