    Sven, I have feature requests:
-Could you include packjpg 2.3 decompression code in 2.4?
-Could you add solid mode w/out sfx? For security reasons. If I'm gonna publish images, some would refuse to run executable to extract them....and many more should refuse, I'm not gonna use it because I don't want to promote such bad practices. Also, the stub size is not negligible...
EDIT: Hmm..Sven, are you the author? Because of your previous post, I thought you are, but now I read "packJPG by Matthias Stirner"...

I'll have a look on ways to update Precomp with the newest PackJPG version. I could either use a new DLL, but I'd have to request it and it'd take some time.
Because of frequent PackJPG crashes (I could also reproduce crashes with the new 2.4 version, so this won't improve it), I think completely rewriting the JPG detection code would be the better way. By the way, the developer tools available on the PackJPG site look nice, but they're in early stages, too. The invalid stream I mentioned that results in a crash of PackJPG f.e. leads to an endless loop in the extrJPG tool.
I think I'll discuss these things with Matthias Stirner and try to update Precomp as soon as possible. As the next version will be a release to add some features but also maximize stability, it's also possible that JPG recompression will be optional and has to be activated using a command-line switch.

Metadata can be discarded using "-d", but the normal way seems to be to keep files bitwise identical. There also is a new switch "-ver" that seems to verify this after processing.

The author of packJPG is Matthias Stirner.

Thanks for clarification, I could wait long to get the library implamented. ^^
    I'll mail the author then.

    Arrow Benchmark

    50=Total JPGs
    15.98 MB (16,766,320 bytes)=Total size

    12.25 MB (12,850,258 bytes)=WinZip
    12.04 MB (12,631,618 bytes)=PackJPG 2.3c Combined PGJs into .Zip
    11.94 MB (12,526,702 bytes)=PackJPG 2.4 Combined PGJs into .Zip
    11.88 MB (12,462,197 bytes)=PackJPX 2.4 Solid PJA Size+UPXed SFX 70656 bytes
    11.82 MB (12,391,545 bytes)=PackJPX 2.4 Solid PJA without SFX

Note that, I'll make Zip file with "store method" to combine all PJGs into an archive
(file names, file lengths, crc &...) same as in WinZip & PackJPX's PJA to better (real) as
    near to compare compressed size.

    ...and now,
who can more than 100 JPEGs with min.3.0 megapixel or above, to take another bench.
add bench feature: De/Compression time, size & mem size usage during in De/Compression.

How do you create pja files?
Whatever I try with PackJPG, I get multiple pjgs and with PackJPX - a single exe.

    Hi m^2...

1st, "PJA" is "PackJPG Archive" that created with PackJPX, it useful for more than one JPG for compress in single archive, same like 7Z,RAR,ZIP...

2nd, when you removing sfx exe from file then you directly access in 1 PJA.
be careful look in my benchmark again and see highlighted lines...
    was simple.?

No. I guessed what's .PJA. But still don't know what does "removing sfx exe from file" mean. I guess there's something simpler than reading exe header to get stub size and then cutting it off with a hex editor?

    O.O

No way in a very hot cave from christian mythology would i ever be able to do a work like that.
neither my programming skills or understanding into compressions would be anywhere near useful for this kinda of stuff.

but im very flattered if you ever thought that.... that just made my day

im a big fan og packjpeg though. but i only have enough knowledge to understand and be impressed byt ppl's work here. No way to make anything on my own.
