    PAQ8PF

PAQ8PF is based on PAQ8PX with modifications to make it much faster compressing most files at levels -4 and above. Compression ratio will not be as good as PAQ8PX for most files. I will include the source code with the final release.

    EDIT: Attachment removed.

YEESS!!! fantastic!!! in a few seconds (also -8 option) a great compression! I hope that you continue to improve this version, because is wonderful!

P.S. This version takes only 1166 with -8 option set, amazing.

    Exclamation FrontPAQ3 featuring PAQ8PF Beta 1!

Wow! It compresses very fast! I'm amazed (this for sure will be available on PerfectCompress v6.0. I started implementing it!).

Well, I made another version of FrontPAQ which uses PAQ8PF.
You can download the new version (FrontPAQ3) at my web site:

    paq8pf -8 enwik8 -> 18,589,917, 1754 sec, 1222 MB.
    0.9966 on generic test.

I'll wait for the release before posting benchmarks.

PAQ8PF beta 2 released. Differences from beta 1:

    (1) Better compression for some files at the expense of a slight speed loss.
    (2) Some changes to the command line help text.

    EDIT: Attachment removed.

All of my own tests have shown it to be slower. I will include it with future releases if anyone reports it to be faster on their machines.

Thanks a lot! I've started to compress my files with this rather than with PAQ8PX, also, the UCA file format in my software will use this version rather than PAQ8PX for faster compression.

    Thank you a lot!

Here are some tests for PAQ8pf (both Beta1 and 2) on TestBed.tar
    Code:
       version\option enc.time size memory
    ----------------------------------------------------------
    paq8px_sp_opt_64 -6 1094.850 5 492 622 450 MiB
           paq8pf_b1 -6 259.379 6 573 733 361 MiB
       paq8pf_alt_b1 -6 253.396 6 573 733 314 MiB
           paq8pf_b2 -6 265.101 6 473 251 378 MiB

    paq8px_sp_opt_64 -1 262.572 5 918 448 49 MiB
           paq8pf_b1 -1 238.960 6 732 971 50 MiB
       paq8pf_alt_b1 -1 232.813 6 732 971 50 MiB
           paq8pf_b2 -1 244.477 6 662 383 51 MiB
I've also notice a small issue with memory requirements reported by PAQs. For example PAQ8px_64 at -6 level reports that 527 716 716 bytes (503 MiB) have been used but according to Process Explorer's Peak Working Set only 450 MiB utilised. Same for -1 level. Reported was 51.5 MiB and actual was 49 MiB.

Thanks for testing, but the enhanced speed of paq8pf is only really available at levels -4 to -8. Levels -0 to -3 will be much the same as paq8px.

I will include paq8pf_alt with future releases as your tests have clearly shown it to be slightly faster on your machine.

PAQ8PF beta 3 released. This update fixes the bug reported by Bulat.

EDIT: Attachment removed and PAQ8PF project withdrawn. There's no place for it now that Jan Ondrus has released FP8 (Fast PAQ.
