    New alpha version: http://www.haskell.org/bz/FreeArc-0....2008-05-15.exe

Main changes compared to previous alpha version dated Feb 8:
    • Improved automatic filetype detection
    • Improved -m3/m4 compression methods
    • Initial support for scripting FreeArc using Lua (see scripts directory)
    • -di+% for displaying memory status
    • lzma: changed default settings; :h parameter allows to change size of hash; new HT4 matchfinder allows dictionaries up to 1gb
    • GUI: BackSpace jumps to the parent directory

    Hello everyone,

    nice to hear development continues
What made me wonder -> title speaks about "beta versions" content says "alpha"...
I think you are rising a thread with future-development in your mind!?
So, besides the news you gave -> any news about the 2GB-limit?

    Best regards!

what you mean? problems with computers having 2+ gb of memory was solved in the 28-jan version

the topic name means "all the versions before 0.50 release". i don't said "alpha/beta" only for brevity. nevertheless, i plan to fix most dramatic problems in current alpha version and finally deliver a beta one

    Hello everyone,

sorry for confusing you. I meant your posting here:
    http://encode.su/forums/index.php?ac...ic=599&page=10
where you spoke about problems compressing ">1GB data" with "current internal version".

    Best regards!

    Arrow Hi Bulat

I have tested WinARC 0.50 with -mx and auto filetype detection settings.
How can I use WinARC with CCMx + PreComp + PackJPG + ECM?
I have copied all executables into installation main directory and then noticed
that no -max mode is selectable.

    It takes 39th place.

For full results please head over to www.squeezechart.com/main.html

If next version could support -max command with external filters/compressors, it would be really cool.

File not found libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll, reinstalation may resolve the problem

GTK2 Runtime is installed, and reinstalled and reinstalled...

Any idea to resolve the problem?

    try version 2.10.14 from http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...kage_id=255391

or you may download http://haskell.org/gtk2hs/win32/gtk+-2.10.14-win32.zip and manually add bin directory to PATH

sorry for inconvenience. next version will be shipped with gtk runtime libs

    Talking It works!!!

    Excellent compressor, and pretty faster!

A native GUI it would be possible? without GTK2, Framework or similar?
    Date of 0.50 final? aproximatly

Note por ENCODE: PIM 2.10 will be the last version?

ask author of warc ) although i think that it's pretty useless - tornado compression may be used inside freearc archives and is actually used in -m2 mode

FA uses tor 0.2, and latest tor version is 0.4,isn't it?
As I understand, tor 0.4 is experimental and isn't compatible with 0.2, so you didn't include it in FA. Is that right?

i'd like to suggest to make a FreeArc plugin to 7-zip with SFX so it can be bundled with 7-zip package (if license permit..) so JOY would spread much faster..

First you'd compare size if FreeArc's SFX (with all necessary libraries) with the size of the whole 7-Zip install package

why you think that fa uses tor 0.2??

tor 0.2 was internal may2007 version of program. then i've developed 0.25, 0.3 and included it into fa 0.40. i've not published these as separate packages for a long time but finally released 0.3 version as it was used in fa. then i've improved higher compression modes and made 0.4. it still remains compatible with 0.3 and latest tornado sources are used for building new fa versions. so with May alpha of fa you got tor 0.4, although it differs from 0.3 only in tor:9..tor:11 modes while -m2 compression uses tor:5 which was not changed at all

all further changes to tornado will be included in fa too. new versions of tornado will be able to decompress old data, actually ATM i don't have any plans of adding new formats

i'm going to release beta version. one thing that's need to be fixed is language files. here is current internal WinArc version with lanuage files included: http://www.haskell.org/bz/arc1.arc

you can install it by copying new files at the top of existing WinArc installation. aside of russian and english tramslations which are always up-to-date, we have 4 translations which miss a few recently-added strings:

    arc.czech.txt
    arc.french.txt
    arc.german.txt
    arc.italian.txt

it will be great if you will update them, replacing "??" strings with actual translation. please do it in a next few days

new strings to localize include "Make EXE" in compression box and messages displayed at the bottom of main window

    thank you, Vacon!

please take a look at all lines containing "low-memory" string. I made a change in english&russian versions replacing "asymmetric" with better descriptive text, it's better to change german translation too

edit: also "Make EXE" remains untranslated
