    Thumbs up

    Hey guys,

    I have done another update to SqueezeChart

    mainly, there are more compressors on bitmap, audio, exe and special treatment pages; the main site now includes PAQ8p1, BIT 0.4 and PPMX 0.05.

    The Hall of Fame features 4 new photographs:

    * Alfr?d Haar
    * Dave Walden
    * Nicola Ferioli
    * Tomi Poutanen

    If you have photographs that are still missing, please tell me.

    Cool

    Hey again,

    I have updated my site again.. This time cosmetic changes to index site
    with place to announce updates, some updated links and new graphics. Future polls are kept on the index site as well.

    Well, I hope the new design is better than the old one and you enjoy it..

    To Ilia: I am testing this BCM version at present

    Hi Stephan, that line catched my eye:
    ".AVI uncompressed: mHUFFYUV 1.3.1" in World Records by Filetype.
    that codec should be easily outperformed by Lagarith or FFV1, and i'm not talking about "PAQish" ones like - MSU or YULS.
    what kind of video file is that?

    Hi Zonder,

    I know that these codecs are usually better than any HuffYUV,
    but this avi is a short webcam video. I could not get my hands
    on an uncompressed AVI that has a proper quality and is not
    comverted from lossy sources.

    So if anybody can provide me with a proper uncompressed AVI
    (that is not converted), please let me know.

    Of course, this format is not up to date and I am thinking about
    a replacement with a .MKV file instead.. Seems like our culture
    has led to lossy video formats.. No device I know can store
    uncompressed video..

    Does anybody know a free video trailer in Matroska MKV format
    which is in HD? Where to download that?

    AVI or MKV doesnt matter for your test it is just container, not format.
    HD trailers - www.hd-trailers.net .
    btw can you share that short webcam video?

    Hi Zonder,

    unfortunately, that avi is a private conversation that cannot be shared.

    But I am currently editing that section and replace the .avi, .rm and .wmv
    with .mkv, .ts and .mov (HD trailers)

    It seems like Ocaymd can compress such files best and I wonder who will be the first that creates a lossless recompressor for that MPEG data..

    Exclamation Squeeze Chart polls

    Hey guys,

    to get my boring testsets just a little more exciting,
    I do plan some changes.

    But I don't want to decide that on my own;
    therefore I have put two new polls on the main site
    and its up to you to decide what's hot and what's not.

    Please do also vote which corpus should be removed.

    Cheers,

    Stephan

    Update progress

    I am just adding ASH 0.6 with /m2200 /s255 /o33 to the chart;
    latest BCM, FlashZip and ZPAQ are already tested.
    Please check back on my site at this sunday for the results.

    Regarding the wikipedia set which will replace the old encyclopedia -
    should it contain only one english dump part or should I also add
    russian, spanish, arabian and french counterparts of the same size?

    e.g. 100 MB english XML dump, 100 MB russian, 100 MB spanish, 100 MB arabian and 100 MB french XML dump in one test corpus..

    @Stephan:
    I think, multi-language dumps are better. Because, we already have an access for english dump in LTCB. Also, by adding multi-language dumps, we can see clearly which programs use english dictionary trick. BTW, besides prefix-derived language (i.e. English), a suffix-derived language (i.e. Turkish) can be added too. I think, it will be interesting. For example:
    Code:
    English                Turkish
    house                  ev
    my house               evim
    your house             evin
    her/his/its house      evi
    your house             eviniz
    their house            evi

    Squeeze Chart update

    the promised update is online now..

    regarding the wikipedia XML dump testset which will start this summer,
    I have decided to use 10 of the most spoken languages with 100 MB each
    will means the upcoming corpus will be 1 GB in size.

    Any comments?

    If you have a 2 GB of RAM installed, try - bcm -b390239. On "out of memory!" message, try -b390000, -b385000, -b380000, -b375000, -b370000, etc.

    With my Windows Vista and 2 GB of RAM installed I may use "bcm -b390239" easily.

    Anyway, you may just start testing the BCM v0.07 with such switches...
