Any problems after optimizing interlaced PNG into non-interlaced?

I mean can it break some software / games after optimization if interlaced PNGs were used as resources? Or any engine won`t notice difference and it`s safe to optimize?
In theory they all use libpng so it should correctly show interlaced and non-interlaced pngs the same way?

I think you can only try and check the result.
Making changes in games resources is always risky.
