I use these command lines for MinGW GCC4 and MSVC9, respectively:

g++ -O2 paq8blah.cpp paq7asm.obj
cl/O2 paq8blah.cpp paq7asm.obj

I think. Haven't compiled anything in a while.

Also, I don't usually keep an ASM compiler on hand, so I keep using the same old paq7asm.obj that was compiled several years ago.

Do I have to do anything to the obj file? I tried the one that was attached to an earlier post, and I tried one from Matt Mahoney's site. Both of them say that the file format is unrecognized.

There are 3 different object file formats depending on which compiler you use (4 including Linux). There should be comments in source code to tell you how to get NASM to output the correct format.

Thank you very much. The source file explains everything. I put in an argument and it work now.
