Ilya, is this really off-topic? i say about quickest way to port our compressors to Linux, i myself use it to develop linux versiuon of freearc. i fear that this topic will be lost in this subforum

I just found that this topic is not anyhow related to the compression. No one word about compression technique or compression program...

If this topic about cross-platform porting - add some examples. And we shall rename the topic to 'Compression Under Linux', 'Porting Compressors', etc.

I'm just sure about that we already have a bunch of forums that describe Linux and Linux-related stuff. Anyway, 'Off-Topic' is for free discussion.

I would better think of an thread like this related to OS X . If someone has access to a mac it's really easy to compile a console program.
I would like to have an information thread for windows, linux and mac porting with special 64bit instructions fopen64 (they are not the same on every platform as far as I know). And maybe compiler tricks/help.

I found a way to autodetect the CPU in the Makefile and pass it as a flag to gcc:
CFLAGS += -march=$(shell uname -m)

Sir? If I understand the posting right ->sources<- of RAR (allthough old) are open? Portable to other plattforms?

I only know of UnRAR sources having been published.

The link is a compiled program which works on Linux distributions having glibc 2.3.4 or later and libstdc++ 5.0.6 or later. Rarlab.com publishes an executable for recent distributions of Linux.

That was my knowledge too And I didn't even find the unrar-sources in that package.

I found a way to autodetect the CPU in the Makefile and pass it as a flag to gcc:

I was surprised by your above posting, because you talked about a makefile (afaik used for compiling sources) and the RAR-package in one posting. So I merged these two sentences.

-march or -mtune should not be left in makefiles (except maybe what I wrote above).
