winace is dead since many many years now.
Yes compression was overall much better and the GUI had some interesting approaches but winrar was more intuitive and had more features.

Winrar and winzip are probably no bestsellers anymore, too. I think that it is just a question of time untill these archivers disappear, too. Even though 7zip's compression isn't as good as winrar when it's about compressing text, neither is the speed satisfying nor the high memory consumption shines but it is still used by so many people because you can download it for free that companys can't sell their software anymore. Of course there are some other compression tools, too. But I think that 7zip made the biggest impact regarding jobs in the area of data compression tools.

Well doesn't change that development stopped long time ago.

Sure. WinACE was a tool with lots of potential, evolving from a DOS GUI, to a Windows one. Unfortunately they were unable to improve its algorithms, nor upgrade the tools (Delphi I guess), so it lacked behind others for more than 5 years.
