I'm against showing atomic power by killing so many people to stop a war, I think smaller scale (area with fewer inhabitants) had probably the same effect, but I do not know all the details of that time.

MH17 people took not part in the Russia against Ukraine war and had no option to vote and had limited options to support or protest against the leaders of Russia and Ukraine.

As far as I know there is an inner-Ukrainian conflict.

President Poroshenko wants to solve this conflict in eastern Ukraine military.
But the UA has no money for war.
I think Poroshenko decides this not lonely but in consultation with the CIA and the US government.
And the EU has to pay the war.

President Poroshenko does not allow payments to Ukrainian pensioners and public sector workers.

This means for me:

How do you conclude that it is a war of Russia against Ukraine?

There are only two armies fighting, both speaking Russian with both some supporters and some hired from all over the world.
Ukraine did not attacked Russia and waited round 6-8 weeks before responding at Russian attacks in east Ukraine.
About the Russian Crimea attack where the war started with, Putin told already proud that the Russian army did it.

Blackwater do not exist under that name since 2009 when it was renamed to US Training Center, in 2010 it was sold and in 2011 renamed to Academi. Everybody can hire from them or other companies security guys for round 1200 dollar a day, probably some rich Ukraine business men hire them for protection of their business interests/properties.

Probably major countries send (or are asked by Ukraine gov) also some of their military specialists to check damages, weapons used and progress armies.

Russian army spend as much money as the three biggest EU armies (UK/FR/DE) together, Ukraine can never win this war alone and only hope Russia keep the Minsk 2 agreement.

Ukraine kept probably their airspace open not to lose face, the overfly rights are 180 million a year and less for the east Ukraine where round 160 airplanes a day passed.
Russian BUK specialists gave clear info in one meeting to say in the next meeting info was only hypothetical if their leaders whistled them back.

New for me was the audio data they recovered from the different channels (multiple microphones) of the cockpit voice recorder and could use the timing difference to discover what direction impact came from.

There was yesterday a JIT press conference in Dutch language with (court ready) proof what shot down MH17 (Russian BUK), from where (Russian separatists area), where it (BUK) came from (Russia) and where it (BUK) wend to (Russia) and who requested the anti air craft missile (Russian separatists).

Basic JIT listened 150,000 phone taps provided by Ukraine secret service, send 100,000 (paid) SMS to people who where near the (MH17/BUK) locations that days, with the request to send any info about MH17 to the 250 JIT researchers (police investigators), RADAR data from Ukraine mobile RADAR, satellite images from US, ESA and weather, text, photos, videos (also quick deleted) from social media, countless interviews with witnesses and forensic research at different locations.

JIT has left a list of 100 people with all personal details and must now (research do not stop, can still take years) find out who did what, who pushed the button and who gave the order.
