Replacing paq8hp.cpp with the attached file might fix things for you (but it also seems to make compression slightly worse).
My test of ENWIK with CMIX6_x64:
    ENWIK8: compressed size 15'778'184, compression time 34'588,42 s
    ENWIK9: compressed size 125'697'691, compression time 398'293,92 s

    I've didn't check decompression yet.

Compression is realy slightly worse than original cmix6, it's close to cmix4 Linux compile.

    One update.
I've compared score of CMIX6_x64 to paq8pxd_v16_x64 scores from 6-9 modes extrapolated into 10-15 modes as a nonlinear estimate of score.
Tt looks that 30GB cmix compression score raffly fit to paq8pxd_v16_x64 theoretically estimated curves.

    Thanks for this Skymmer.

It works great with -s8 but not with -s9.

In fact, when I tested v16_skbuild and v16_noname on "penderecki-capriccio.wav" from CompressionRatings's Reference Files test, skbuild got better result.

    Code:
    skbuild -s9 1,383,903
     noname -s9 1,479,916
     noname -s8 1,367,287

I think its no so correct to compare compression strenght at different levels, cause its differs from version to version.
Your test shows up that OFR model packs better. No matter is it level 8 or 9 )

Also, the version provided above is very dirty. I'm not even sure that decompression works. Furthermore no safe float math used and no heavy speed optimizations made, so please don't use it for benchmarks.
    Its just a preview.

    Changelog:
    - OptimFrog based WavModel has been returned
    - A couple of #pragmas added to source in order to apply safer MS-like floating math for WavModel only
    - Some minor tweaks which resulted in slightly better compression on some data
    - Changes in console help. Now it shows more info about usage
    - Console help now includes a table which shows possible Models\Levels combinations and full info about memory requirements

I decided to put this as soon as possible so currently there is x64 build only.

    Thanks Skymmer!

I've tested it already and I found something strange which was posted earlier by Comp1 - in the modes above s8 (s9, s10...) there is much lower wave compression ratio. Change from s8 to s9 is quite big and not "natural".

I've compared it to paq versions without wave model and it looks (for me) that from modes s9 and up there is wave model switched off....

    Hello Skymmer,

I cannot compress an old game using your SK Build 3:

As you can see, your compressor does not finish the task, just exits without error messages. The size of the destination file is 0.

I can upload this small ISO to a cyberlocker if you need it for its study. It's abandonware, so it's not piracy by any means.

    Thanks.

Trying to compile wrtpre.cpp from source and decoder directories with no luck.

Any help to make 32-bit exe's?

Thanks for testing. It seems that there are some problems with latest skbuild3 and in both cases they are related to -q mode. Could you please try the same with original paq8pxd_v16 ?
I have one suspicion but it would be nice to have a full confidence.

If you want to compile a standalone EXE from wrtpre.cpp then its not possible because wrtpre.cpp serves as text preprocessor inside the paq8pxd and has no entry point itself. Its based on XWRT 3.2 so you can try to look here if you want to play with XWRT.

Ahh thank you! That explains why I wasn't able to compile a standard, working executable.

    Always appreciate your help.

You're right. The original version by Kaitz compresses this file without problems. Here you have the log:

On a side note, could you add another switch to disable OptimFrog compression in your next build? It slows down the compression task a lot on some files with WAV audio.

    Thanks

Yes, this time -q1 completed without errors and extracted file is identical.

Thanks Skymmer! I've tested it. For me there no any issues. Stable, quite fast version. No changes in compression to build3.

Made a attempt to mix VM from fpaqvm (vm/jit) to paq8pxd_v16. Probably a silly attempt or something like that.
    External file: paq8pxd_v17

    There are:
    • 4 config files, names are hardcoded to predictors at the moment. They are not stored into resulting archive.
    • 3 windows executable files, for x64 and x86 witch use emulation and one for x86 using JIT, the fast one.
    • source

    Removed fast option.

Best part of this probably is that there is no need to recompile app every time to test something.

About language: int, short and char are actually unsigned.

This is really not a final version.

I you like, could you test it? Otherwise do not worry!
    The syntax is paq8pxd_v12_biondivers1_x64.7z -11 enwik9.

    bye and thanks

    Talking

    PAQ8PXD_V17v2

    • changed matchcontex etc.
    • removed models /match,jpg,dmc/
    • added i8 cfg file
    • chnged szdd, pgm detection
    • compress cfg files to reduce output size
    • cfg file chages
    • vm changes
    • quick and slow compression modes / -s or -q /
    • config files:

    IMAGE1 test3img.cfg
    IMAGE8 test3i8.cfg
    IMAGE24 test3i24.cfg
    All other types:
    Quick test3s.cfg
    Slow test3d.cfg

Note: I worked with this version last year. I wanted to replace current vm in use with this http://www.t3x.org/subc/. But messed up my code in progress.
This is not paq8pxd_v18 i used in paq8px thread. And I do not want to keep this version only to myself.
    It my contain bugs.

I work in lossy compression (I prepare a matser thesis), and I use your software paq8pxd_v4, in lossless phase, it give me very good results. so I ask your consent.

I agree. But I am not the only author. When you are finished this thesis, then maybe you can publish it here?

Thank you Kaitz and sorry for responding late. with your software I get this results:
    Lena color 512X512 : PSNR: 35.00 CR: 22.17
    Pepper color 512X512: PSNR: 34.11 CR: 15.72
Please, Can I mention, in general, the algorithm ?

Maybe I'm wrong, but for my examples this version have slightly worse WAV compression than used in V16_skbuild 3 and 4 - about 1.5%, in some cases even higher...
Could you try this version to wav model to V18 version?

    Best Regards
    Darek

The difference is OptimFrog wav model in V16_skbuild.
