Just for info how to setup an avatar:
User CP -> Edit Avatar -> Option 2 - Upload Image From Your Computer

Browse for picture on your computer

Press 'Save Changes'

It's odd, there is no option two, but only a single radiobutton. Maybe it's Opera - will try another browser when I feel the urge to add an avatar.

Yes, avatars seem to work now. Back to topic: Even if the old forum
wouldn't be read-only now, I'd still prefer the new one as it looks better
and feels more familiar to me. Also, some features like previewing [1] and
overview over the smilies are an improvement

As I'm used to previous all other forums I visit are different, I'm unfamiliar and uncomfortable in such forum But I guess it'll improve over time.

I guess you're right. There are some new features I like and tons of features I will probably never use fully

Is it possible to make page less whitish? I prefer light colours. Black on white is hard for my eyes. And i'd like to see reduced page width to make reading more comfortable. Thanks.

The new forum is very nice, but there are small usability issues, especially when the poster information (and the avatar !) is placed above his post : there is much less information on-screen than with the old forum where the poster information was located on the left of the post .

I'm not picky about this, but on many forums, for example

avatars show up on the left, which reduces page width.

Yes, this kind of layout makes a forum a bit more readable. In fact there are two factors there :
- The fact that "meta"s (I mean, name, avatar and so on) take half of the vertical space (for example, at the beginning of this thread, I can only read two posts without scrolling down the page : Ilia's and LovePimple's)
- The fact that human eyes get tired when constantly going from left to right and from right to left (that's why newspapers use a multi-column layout, btw)

In fact, hydrogenaudio's forum is not perfect either, since when the "meta"s are longer than the message, there still is some space lost.
When disabling avatars, it's similar to the old encode.su forums, ie. it's possible to read several threads without scrolling .

i dont care which forum it is

but i really hate these big avaters.
make it hard to read when people are only making single line post.

the old forum was easier to fast read then this with all the avatars and signature in the same space areaas is the text i want to read.


actually i think i preffer the old one



and yes HA layouts is much better because the avatar is not in the same space areas as the text. also the colors indexing make i fast for the eyes to focus on the text.

I tried to make a quick mashup of what could save some space... but it would have to be made in such a way that it would use space also under avatar (not an empty column as my mashup indicates). I also doubt that the message subject is useful in any way, but it'll be hard to persuade encode to change this all

Its unnecessary for Ilia to change the layout of the forum. If you don't like the avatars, turn them off.
