    This has been done. Pik has another variation of lossless jpeg recompression in it, just 2.5x faster to decode and 1 % loss against lepton in density.

    FYI, webp is now supported by Microsoft Edge and Firefox. This means that webp now has near-universal browser support – the only remaining holdout is Safari.

    (Opera is based on Chromium and supports webp. I believe that Vivaldi and Brave also support it since they're Chromium browsers.)

    True. Now some Content Management Systems needs to adapt it, like WordPress which by default, rejects WebP images..
