You have one day (24 hours) to edit your own post. After that, the post will be locked.
Until some weeks ago, I used this post http://encode.su/threads/2284-CMV?p=...ll=1#post46202 like a blog, updating it with info and notes about CMV without disturbing the forum with new posts, and now I can't update it any more. :-(
Update old posts is also usefull to exchange files (e.g. versions only for testers, benchmarks data, test files) in a simple and silent way, without new posts.
And until now, Márcio updated the first post of the thread EMMA with new versions.
Please, reconsider your choice, or take into account one or more of the following suggestions:
- Lock a post after a month since last update (if a guy want to keep it alive, he must update it at least one time in a month).
- Always unlock the first post of a thread.
- Attach files also in PM.
- ...or the best solution: unlock posts. :-)
Thanks for the information....
Currently there is no solution to separate the first post from others. Let me know if you will find a dedicated add-on for vBulletin...
I agree with Mauro. I usually update the first post in EMMA's thread with any new version and use it to keep an up-to-date list of its features (something that was actually requested). I feel that is the most appropriate way to deal with a thread related to an ongoing project, since that way one doesn't need to peruse the whole thread to see if something has already been implemented or search for the post with the lastest attachment/link.
Best regards
I do understand and agree. But, the more important is prevent the forum vandalism and important information loss!
There are too many cases of data loss and vandalism and too many days of careful restoration! The information is more important than someone's convenience!
If you know the technical solution within vBulletin - let me (or webmaster) know!
For now, I can just make a person with 100% trust be a moderator...

At first glance, I found nothing usefull in vBulletin 4.2.2 (if I'm not wrong, it's used in encode.su) and 5.2.5 (last version).
vBulletin Manual 4.2.2 Patch level 6
Message Posting and Editing Options (4.2.2)
Private Messaging Options (4.2.2)
Is it possible to enable vBulletin Blog (4.2.2)? (But am I the only man will use it?)
For now you can just write a PM to one of admins (me, for example) with the post url and proposed changes.
Actually I think that encode is too strict about it (I guess it was that annoying to restore 100+ posts),
but I also don't especially like the idea with updating the first post - thread is not bumped in this case,
so who would know about these updates?..
If there is no safe way to keep posts editable, I can host EMMA somewhere else and simply link to it from the first post, no problem.
@Shelwien
I can't speak for others, but I usually make a new post when there are new developments in EMMA, and then update the attachments in the first post, along with the feature description. This way the individual posts for each version can go into detail about what has changed, what is new and what to expect in the future, while the first post is always an up-to-date introduction for those who are new to EMMA and just want to start testing it.
